Whether it’s a dog, cat, small animal, reptile or bird; there are all types of pet in need of a forever home in local shelters and rescues. There are a lot of perks to choosing adoption for your next family member. Not only are you giving a pet a second chance, it will support helping more pets in your community  through adoption fees.

Some people are looking for a young pet, like a puppy or a kitten, and think you can’t adopt them. Well you definitely can! Many shelters and rescues have puppies, kittens and baby animals in their care. But a young pet is not for everyone (they can be a ton of work!). Adult and senior pets are also an excellent option to join your family. Many older pets are overlooked in shelter and rescues but they can be amazing pets if you give them a chance. By the time they are fully grown, you can find out a lot of information about their temperament and energy level, as well as if they get along with other pets or children. This is especially true for cats. If a three-year-old cat loves to snuggle, you can be sure that you will have a cuddle buddy for life. Another bonus is that a lot of the time, adult pets are already spayed or neutered, saving you from some expensive vet bills. And if you worry about an adult pet not bonding with your family, rest assured that even older pets will become attached to the ones who saved it!
